Our Story

Kites for Kids was started in 2026 by Hudson James Pal (12) and Grayson Robert Pal (10), who lost their dad, Sumitro, at ages 4 and 2. Every Father’s Day, they celebrate their hero by releasing balloons with a message attached.

As they grew older, Hudson and Grayson realized that it was important to spread love to others who have lost their parents. They started sharing their annual tradition with neighbors and friends, and telling the story of how the balloons helped lift their spirits.

Kites for Kids exists to spread that tradition and comfort further yet.

The boy on the right wears a white shirt with a navy bow tie, beige shorts, and brown loafers. They have their arms around each other's shoulders.

A Note from Hudson & Grayson

“Losing a parent is hard, but we want kids to know they’re not alone. We’re excited to spread our tradition and send love to kids who may feel like it’s missing. ”

Unexpressed Love

“There is a story of a man being interviewed, and in the interview he was asked about his mother who had passed away a while back. As he spoke of her, he gently started to cry. The interviewer apologized for bringing up such a sensitive topic and the man said, ‘I like to talk about her. I don’t mind crying because it’s just the unexpressed love that I still have inside of me coming out’. This story was, for me, the perfect example of what putting notes on kites and flying them up into the sky is for Hudson and Grayson, even all these years later. While time after losing a parent can never fully heal, this gesture is their Unexpressed Love. The words, memories created, and all the moments that they didn’t get to share with their dad. I imagine it would be similar for other children going through the same thing. What a beautiful gesture to share. I’m so proud of them.” — Michelle Wesley, Aunt of Hudson & Grayson and Board Member of Kites for Kids Foundation
